Indian, African and Islamic History from 900 to 1500 C.E.

This guide to World History allows students to survey and link the interrelations of culture and society in Asia and Africa from 900 to 1500 C.E.  This period predates the European explorations and colonial invasions that impacted Asian and African development from around 1500.

This site is based around the main text in our World History courses, Tignor et al., Worlds Together, World Apart:  A History of the World. (Norton, 2011).

Other recommended texts for this section include:

Herman Kulke and Dietmar Rothermund, A History of India. (Routledge, 2010).
I. Hrbek, ed., General History of Africa:  Volume III.  Africa from the Seventh to the Eleventh Century. (James Currey / UNESCO, 1992)
J. Ki-Zerbo and D.T. Niane, eds., General History of Africa:  Volume IV.  Africa from the Twelfth to the Sixteenth Century. (James Currey / UNESCO, 1992)
